Your child’s rights at school

Accommodations during recovery, the difference between a 504 and an IEP, and how to ask.

After an injury, your child may be entitled to support at school while they recover — extra time, reduced workload, rest breaks, or help getting between classes.

A 504 plan and an IEP are two different tools. A 504 covers accommodations; an IEP is a more formal special-education plan. Ask the school in writing which one fits your child’s needs, and keep a copy of everything.
